UK Bans Travel Ads Called Jerusalem Belongs to Israel

Jerusalem palestina

British advertising watchdog Agency (ASA) banned an Israeli government tourism advertisement that indicates that the Old City of Jerusalem is part of the country, on Wednesday (4/3).

Advertising in the form of a brochure published in the newspaper showed a panorama Old City of Jerusalem with the inscription "Israel has it all".

Al-Arabiya reported, ASA stated that the writing on the ad implies Jerusalem, which is included in one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a part of Israel.

The international community considers that the Old City of Jerusalem is part of the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel. Meanwhile, Israel claimed that the Old City of Jerusalem is part of the nation's capital.

The dispute became increasingly hot as the Old City of Jerusalem is a holy city for three religions, Islam, Christianity and Judaism, where there are Masjid al-Asqa, the Wailing Wall, and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

ASA then instructed that a brochure entitled "Israel Land of Creation" did not appear again.
"We understand that the status of the region is subject of international disputes," the statement from the ASA, told Al-Arabiya, Wednesday (4/3).
"Therefore we considered the ad could mislead consumers to believe that the Old City of Jerusalem is part of Israel and that they take a transactional decision that they should not take," the statement from the ASA.
The brochure shows photos showing the symbol of the Old City of gold and Dome of the Rock which is a holy site for Muslims, with modern buildings of West Jerusalem as the background.
The text on the photo reads: "Everybody in love with the Old Town, with the gang are narrow and car-free, full of pilgrims crowded and boisterous atmosphere."
In his defense, denied Israel Government Tourist Office brochure indicates East Jerusalem and the Old City as part of the state of Israel.
"They said the ad was not trying to make a political statement, because it would be inappropriate for an ad to do it," the statement from the ASA.
"On the contrary, they believe that these brochures provide practical information that explains the visitor can go to places that are listed in the ad, such as the Old City of Jerusalem, which can only be visited by a trip to Israel," the statement from ASA.
