Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Johnny Depp injured on Gold Coast
Johnny Depp will fly back to the United States for surgery on his hand after being injured on the Gold Coast last weekend, according to showbusiness website Variety.
The 51-year-old actor has been filming Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales on a sprawling set at Helensvale. However it's understood he was not filming or on the set at the time he hurt his hand.
It's believed the incident will have only a minimal impact on filming, with work continuing on scenes not featuring Depp, who plays Captain Jack Sparrow.

The bizarre incident happened along Country Club Drive at Helensvale just after midday on Tuesday, with the dreadlocked man threatening staff with a knife before fleeing into nearby bushland. A police search of the area failed to find the man, who was not believed to be an extra.
Prior to that Cyclone Marcia (a category 5 tornado) loomed as a threat in January and eventually crossed the coast close to Rockhampton on the central Queensland coast. There was no impact on the movie, however, since shooting happened in the Gold Coast studio, more than 700 kilometres south of the danger.
The $250 million production is the largest-ever filmed in Queensland.
It also stars Javier Bardem as the villainous Captain Salazar, Geoffrey Rush reprising his role as Captain Barbossa, as well as fellow Australian Brenton Thwaites as a young British soldier.
Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning are directing the movie, which is being produced by Disney Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Productions.
