Apple and Android dominance of US Smartphone Market

Apple and the operating system (OS) Android resumed its dominance in the smartphone market the United States (US). Based on data from research firm comScore, a combination of both control more than 90 percent market share in the second quarter 2015.

For the category of top smartphone vendors, Apple topped with a 44.1 percent market share, up 1.5 percent from the previous quarter. Of the top five vendors, only Apple is experiencing positive changes.

While the second position is occupied by Samsung, which dropped 0.2 percent to 28.1 percent. Furthermore, the market share of LG and Motorola are both down 0.1 percent, so that each now has 8.3 and 4.9 percent. The top five positions are closed by HTC with a 0.4 percent decline in market share to 3.4 percent.

For the category of smartphone platforms, 'the green robot' Android leads with 51, 6 percent market share. But the dominance of Google OS was decreased by 0.8 percent compared to the previous quarter.

Furthermore, Apple iOS came in second place with 44.1 percent market share. This percentage is equal to the achievement as a smartphone vendor, given the Apple OS is only used by the iPhone and iPad.

Windows Phone and BlackBerry decreased by 0.4 percent, each now has a market share of 2.9 and 1.2 percent.

Another top five positions are occupied by stagnant Symbian with 0.1 percent market share. Similarly, as reported by Phone Arena, Saturday (08/15/2015).
